Netherlands, Amsterdam. Fancy dressed couple sitting on a couch on the Prinsengracht in front of a Houseboat. Early 17th century the city of Amsterdam put up a plan, calling for four main, concentric half-circles of canals running into the IJ Bay. The so-called 'grachtengordel' (belt of canals) consists of three canals for residential purposes (Herengracht, Keizersgracht and Prinsengracht) and an outer canal for defense and water management.
