View of 'De Haar' castle and garden
Netherlands, Haarzuilens. View of 'De Haar' castle and garden. The oldest mention of the castle dates from 1391. The castle when consisted of no more than a fortified house in a tower, a donjon. This tower was built on a zandrug (a hair, hence the surname) along a dead arm of the River Rhine. Over the years, the castle continuously expanded.
